Diesel engines are one of the most efficient ways of traveling long distances. They can even carry huge loads compared to other types of commonly used engines like gasoline or CNG based engines.
You may be well aware that diesel engines are used in commercial vehicles such as trucks, motorhomes, etc. And do you know why? Because they are comparatively very efficient.
But still, there are so many misconceptions about Diesel Engines. Some consider them to be less efficient than gasoline engines, while some think diesel engines are dirtier. Well, if you have some similar misconceptions, this article will help you bust them. Read ahead to find out the common misinterpretation about Diesel Engines:
Myth 1
Diesel Engines Perform The Same As Gasoline At High Altitudes
Many people are of the belief that it doesn’t matter if you are using Gasoline or Diesel Engine at high altitudes, both of them will perform the same. But what they don’t know is that diesel engines come equipped with Turbochargers, which makes Diesel Engines more efficient at high altitudes.
At higher altitudes, the air is thin and that makes it difficult for the engine to mix up fuel & air in an adequate proportion. Therefore, gasoline engines perform poorer.
However, every modern diesel engine, such as Caterpillar Engines, comes equipped with Turbochargers that compensate for the power loss & helps the engines to adequately combust the perfect proportions of fuel & air.
So, diesel engines perform better than gasoline engines at high altitudes.
Myth 2
Quality Of DEF Has No Effect On Emissions
Many people and even some fleet owners are of the misconceptions that it doesn’t matter which type or quality DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) they use, the effects of the exhaust after the treatment is always going to be the same.
But we would like to clarify it here, IT DOES MATTER! From our decades of experience we can assure you that if you use the proper and high-quality DEF, your emission is going to be cleaner, and your engine is going to run butter.
Myth 3
Diesel Fuel Is Costly & Hard To Find
We agree that diesel fuel costs more than gasoline.
You can find Diesel Fuel at most of the fuel pumps (if not at all pumps). We asked our diesel engine customers this question, and this is what one of them said, “No, I never found it difficult to find Diesel, in all my trips I always found it in all the fuel pumps I visited.”
To Sum It Up
Diesel-powered trucks & cars have gained a lot of popularity lately and this is why we thought it was important to bust some of the common myths about diesel engines. Some people have even used vegetable oils as fuel because they thought diesel engines could run on any biodiesel, but in the end, they gravely harmed their engines.
But after this article, we hope you’re now clear about some misconceptions you had. If not, you can always reach out to us.
I liked your post. It was informative on how diesel engines are completely different and your right about the quality of DPF fluid. I also have a blog of my own and maybe you could check it out.
